Production Log 5

We had finally finish recording the idents and now it was time to edit the idents, this was the most important bit as we needed to make sure it was up to scratch by polishing and adding audio which will make more realistic and better. This week we started to edit the 2d first as we thought that would be the less time consuming one as we did not have that much editing work for it as we just needed to add audio and the sweat drop. We manage to complete the 2D ident in one lesson after that we started on the stop motion ident the next day, this was fairly easy as we just put all the still images together after that we had to add shuffling and classroom noise so that it is very realistic and it made it look a lot better. Our aim was to complete the 2D and stopmotion ident in two lesson and we were on schedule as we had finish them, our plan was that we will come back and polish them after doing the most difficult one which was 3D, 3D ident was time consuming as we had to use software's like blender so we can add the 3D effect. We manage to finish the 3D ident in three lessons as it was time consuming and also we never used the blender meant us not knowing how to use it. 

The main issue this week for us was making the 3D ident as it was very time consuming and also none of our team members had used blender, this meant us spending at least one lesson experimenting with the softwares. We used tutorials from YouTube that helped us a lot as it showed how to use blender. Another issue we faced was that the camera footage on the memory card was cut this meant us inserting the memory card in a camera then taking the footage as then it would not cut the footage. We had a technical error with the software imovie as we forgot to save the project, this lead us having to miss some of the work, as it was not saved.


As a group i believe we worked well as we completed all the work on time and we made sure that we helped each other. Overall from this unit i have gained a lot of skills for example i have develop my editing as i now know how to use the new software called Blender. Now we have complete all the idents so it means the whole unit is finished. 






























Production Log 4

This week was the first week of production, by this i mean that we actually started to record the Idents with the camera, all our idents had real footage this meant us just recording the specific shot. We manage to record all the idents in two lesson as the idents are approximately 10 seconds long this is why we did not need as much as footage. During production it went all to plan, as we managed to record all the scene without any logistical problems, all the rooms we wanted to record in was available because most of the student were off  on study leave, this meant the room being available.

Their were some small issues when recording as some of the planned actors were not in due to them having a exam, this is why we have learned that always as the cast before the day of actually recording as it can let you group down, however we were very lucky as one of our friends helped us out in the last minute. Another logistical problem was that when recording the 2D ident we found it very difficult to record the sweat drop, this lead us to making a decision as a group what to do. As a group we decided that the only way we can do it is by animating it when we edit so this meant actually including a sweat drop from online. As a group we worked very well as we communicated well and were punctual at the times we needed to be at place, and i like how we discuss the problem we had then we made a group decision. Also when recording we had a technical error with the camera as we didn't check the battery when we borrowed it, but luckily we quickly went to the media department and then replace battery.

Next week will be doing the post production work by this i mean that we will actually be doing editing the idents. We have decided to edit as a group as we think it will be a lot quicker as we all had different skill which meant it we could help each other.

Production Log 3

This was the third week in pre-production, this week was the week when we had to create discuss the developed idea as a group and then we would have around 5 minuets each to discuss what logistically would be possible to make with the tight schedule we had, this meant us having to choose ideas which we had thought were simple but at the same time creative and also as a group we wanted the idents to be similar and also we had to make sure it appealed to the students who come to Chadwell Heath Academy.

Me and my group chose to a suite of idents which were about student life, the first 2D idea we choose was a pupil in the examination hall and then we would have an over shoulder shot and then we see the sweat drop down and then it would lead to the logo. Then for the 3D ident we choose to do a pupil in the ICT room on the computer and then they will be typing and then the camera would go up and then we would see his face which is covered by the logo of the channel. The last idea was a stop motion, this is where we would see two students playing the cards on the table, we will take an image of every step then at the end put it together which makes it stop motion. All the above ideas are student life and all the students will relate to.

Next week we will be hopefully actually starting to record the idents, we have a tight schedule which we plan to stick to, if we need to we may have to record out of lesson.

Production Log 2

This was the second week in pre-production, we had to write our initial ideas and then make our logo design we had to make sure that the logo’s reflected back on to the content of the channel, and also we needed to design 2 suites of idents each in the group. This helped us make the ideas into a storyboard, where we said what the shot would include and what would be the specific shot it would be. then the following week our group would come together and decide what ideas we want to go with and we also may combine all the ideas together. 

There was no challenges as we had to do individual work to create our idents and the logo, however I did find it challenging to come up with the idea because you had to think clearly if you could produce it and I also wanted to think outside the box as I wanted my idea to be chosen, while making the logo I had to think carefully and I was stuck of idea’s as I wanted to go with something unique.

Next week our aims are as a group to have chosen what ideas we want to go with, and also we ideally would want to be starting the production of our ident that week as it may be a short clip but it takes a lot more detail. Hopefully by the next week all of us know what our job role is and what ideas we were in charge of. This will help us develop our ideas in production stages.

Production Log 1


This is the first week of our pre-production work for producing the idents. This week was all about getting into groups and then mentioning ideas verbally rather than actually writing them up. After getting the groups we had spoken as a class about incidents we thought were similar in our childhood and other pupils will relate their self to them issues, as a class we came up with memories like first day at school or smokers corner, these were some memories which we thought we could relate to and the best thing was that as we were young we know what would relate to them.

I thought my group worked really well as we were able to be open, this is what i thought was most important as we always gave our opinion and i like how our group always considered any ideas we gave. We were in a group of three this made it a lot more easier to communicate as there was not many of us, so we could have turns to speak. This week as a team we did not face any problems as this week we just spoke and shared ideas.

Next week we hope to develop our ideas individually, by this i mean creating our own idents with a detailed storyboard and description which states what will happen in the idents. Also as i want to develop my idea i will try to look at other idents which have been made previously, this will help me get a better idea and create something unique. 




TV Idents:Opportunities, Limitations and Creative Communications


Opportunities:

Creation of corporate identity 

Creation of corporate identity is how the channel communicates their identity, by this I mean what their identity will convey and how they can get identity across.  This may mean them adding features which show what they stand for or what content is shown on the channel. 

E4-student digs 
As you can see from the above clip, the example I have chosen is the E4 robot because i believe their ident shows the target audience they are appealing to. As you can see from the ident it does what the target audience would do. From the ident you can see the E4 robot go to the room and drink and then sit in front of the TV, this is what the younger audience do and we see the room is messy and this is what we associate with the younger audience. Also the ident shows that the ethos of E4 is that it is more entertainment led as you can tell from the ident it does not give a lot of information.

Display of text based information 

Display of text based information is when the channel decides to give more information in the idents by using text. This can help the channel give the audience more information so they know where to go or what time programmes are on, this can gain the amount of viewers that E4 gets. 

Sky Arts- Deft Duet 

As you can see above, the ident I have chosen is Sky Arts ident. In this ident we see they give us extra information as there are extra graphics which gives credit to the artist who created it. By crediting the artist it shows that Sky Arts are very honest because they credit who made this will help the ethos of the channel having better identity. This puts the artist in center of the value. 


Branding of content 

Branding of content is when the channel decides to create a ident which features a programme that is the most popular on the show, by doing this the audience know that the channel specifically shows that the programme on their channel, this will increase the amount of channels they have. 

BBC One- EastEnders Ident 




As you can see from above, my example is from the channel BBC One. In this ident we see BBC One create an ident for their most popular show called 'EastEnders', 'EastEnders' is very popular as it has been aired since 1996, this is a very long period, by creating an ident for this show it makes the audience aware of what is upcoming and also show the audience that they show 'EastEnders' on the channel, this is very Important for BBC One as they need to make sure that the audience know about the programme and by doing this they can increase the viewers of the channel. Also by them having to put the logo in center of Albert Square shows that Eastenders is part of the channel, if you watched EastEnders you'll know that the Albert Square is where the show takes place. 

Creation of Tone

Creation of tone is when the channel decides to uses the content and story line to show the intended tone of the channel, this is very important as the ident needs to show what the channel is about and who their main audience, however some channels like to have different ident to show that they do not have specific content on their channel.

BBC Four- Book Ident 

As you can see above, my example is BBC four because if you watch the ident you can tell that the ident sets a tone as we see that content used like the books is very dull and is aimed at more of the older audience, because the younger generation to not like channels which actually show content that are history or educate. Also the ident tells the us that the channel has a very serious tone to it because they is not to much action also we hardly see any camera movements throughout the ident, shows that most programmes on BBC Four will be documentaries or education programmes.

Appeal to the target audience 

Appeal to the target audience is when the channel decides to appeal to it's target audience through the ident, this may mean that the channel adding features which appeals to the target audience. This helps the audience know if the channel is appropriate for them, also it helps the channel grab the audience they want as the content on their channel is made for them. 

ITV- NIGHT CYCLISTS RIDE

As you can see above, my example is the ITV ident as i believe it does appeal to a lot of the audience because if you look closely in the ident we see many people are riding their bikes in the night, this will appeal to many people in the UK as it is proven that millions ride bikes to commute or even as hobby. By doing this the appeal to the audience which will lead them to staying and watching programmes on that specific channel because it appeals to them and the content on the channel will be suitable because they the ident has appealed to them, however a channel like ITV has many different ident which appeals to a lot of different audience.
Encouragement of Brand Loyalty 

Encouragement of brand loyalty is when the channel decides to make the audience to stay and watch the channel by giving them snippets of what is upcoming on their channel. This helps the channel because it helps the channel draw the audiences attention, by doing this they may stay and wait till the upcoming programmes come on. This will help many of the channel get a lot more viewers as the audience will be excited to watch the following programmes.

ITV- Super Saturday 

As you can see from above, my example i have chosen is again from ITV as they have a popular ident which shows content that is shown on Saturdays in the evening, this allows the audience to know about upcoming shows on that specific day. In this ident we see a few shows appear and then we get to see the glimpse of it, for example in this ident we see 'Britians Got Talent' feature as the snippets 'Britian Got Talent' is a very popular show known worldwide and we see many people across the world come and participate in it, this is why ITV may be seen from other countries because some people may want to support the person who is on the. By showing the content which is going to be shown on Saturday, it gets the audience excited and also builds up suspense as they want to know what happens on the show, this is a very good way to draw the attention of the audience.

Limitations:


Typography

Typography is the basically the font which is used in the logo, this may be some issue for the channel because they may find it very difficult to find the right typography as they may want a typography which connotes the channel's tone and Ethos. This is a limitation to the company as they may be sending the message across to the audience as some audience may think different from the Typography this is why it is very important for the channel to find the most suitable one.  

Gold

As you can see above, my example is an Gold ident which has been limited due to the typography because the typography in the ident is very plain and does not tell us features about the channel, this is a downside for the channel because they do not tell the audience if the channel is suitable for them. As you can see the Gold typography is very basic which means that the audience won't know about the channel, this is one of the limitation of an ident and the other is that the boldness of the typography of the logo does not convey any meaning at all. 



Resolution

Resolution is the level of the clarity of the image, by this i mean that the channel may offer their audience a better quality of programme as the TV can be displayed in 720 and 1080i, 720 is the standard quality and 1080i is high definition which gives better detail of the image. The higher the resolution the better the quality and it is more clear which means you being able to see all the action as it is very sensitive.

As you can see from above i have chosen two idents and you can see the first ident is in standard quality and the second one is in HD you can see there is a big difference in the quality as the second one is a lot clear which means that you are able to see in more detail so you can see all the action and also if you look very carefully there is difference in the logo as you can tell in the second ident there logo looks more faded and you can see the clarity in the logo. 

Colour

There is many limitation of idents one is the colour, by this i mean them using specific colours to connote specific elements of the channel, in this modern society there is a variety of colour to choose from, this helps the channel have bright colours and also this will improve the clarity of the images.



As you can see from the above image, when BBC first opened up they did not have colour which meant their logo and idents not being in colour, by having colour now it makes the ident better because without colours it does not have any meaning but now they can have colour which shows a lot of colour. 
Size

Size of the screen is very important because the size affects the clairity of the image, by this i mean the detail of the image because if the size is really small it will be very difficult to see what is there and it may be an important image and if the audience do not see it they may not understand what the ident is conveying.

BBC THREE- 2008 IDENT 

As you can see from the above my example is of BBC three, in this ident we see a lot of things are happening this means that the ident and it is very clear on a larger screen as you would be able to see it in more detail, however if for the people that had the small screen they wouldn't be able to see, this is a limitation as they may miss an important element in the ident, this is why the size matters.

Aspect Ratio

The aspect ratio is the proportion between the width and the height of a picture. It is often expressed in the W:H format, where W is the width and H the height. Aspect ratio is very important because it helps the audience to see in more detail, if the aspect ratio is low then that means a lot of information is loss and some of the meaning is lost. 

MTV- URBAN IDENT 

As you can see from above the example i choose is MTV as you can see there is a lot of action in the ident, this means that it would be effected by the aspect ratio because some of the viewers may have TV's which has a lower aspect ratio, this means that they would not be able to see all the action as the size of the screen is very small this is why it is a limitation for the channel. Aspect ratio is used for aesthetic reasons by this i mean it visually looks better. 

Analogue, Digital Recording and Transmission system

Most of the idents these days have been made digitally system which means that some of the audience which use analogue system would find it difficult to watch the digital recording as their system will not be capable. This is a limitation to all the audience with an analogue TV.

MTV- POP IDENT

As you can see from above i have chosen an MTV ident because the ident is very busy which means that it would be effected by analogue, digital recording and transmission system because if some of the viewers are watching by the analogue TV it will mean that the will lose detail and quality because as you can see the MTV ident has a lot of colour which means that on the analogue TV would not show the colours, this means that the ident losses a lot of meaning as colour often creates meaning. 


Creative communication:

Enhancing Ideas

Enhancing ideas is all the visual techiniqes that can be improved by doing this it makes the ident more enhance as their idea is more advanced a different compared to others, when enhancing their ident ideas they will be considering colours, fonts and imagery etc because the factors are important and they are the conventions of the ident this is why by focusing on them they can progress and enhance their ideas.

DAVE- ALARM COCKEREL IDENT 

As you can see from the above i have chosen the Daves ident as there ident is very enhanced, by this i mean that the idea are very unique and different compared to others. In this ident we see a chicken act like a alarm which is very unusual which means that the idea's are being enhanced which means the idents will be different compared to other channels. Enhanced ideas are usually made by channels which are well known and popular. 

Pushing the technology

Pushing the technology is basically how advance they are in the technological side, by this i mean do they have the latest software which allows them to use special effects on their ident, this may give them an advantage as they will have idents which is unique and different compared to other channel's ident, this will send a message to the audience that the channel is different and also it may till them that the channel is up to date and very modern.

FILM4- CORRIDOR FIRE IDENT 


As you can see above the example i have chosen is the film 4 channel ident because the ident is advanced in technology because the have used most updated software which means they are able to create more creative content as they can play about with the latest software and as you can see film 4 have used special effects to create the fire in the ident, also you can see the have used another effect as the camera does not move but the effect just goes down, this is the benefit of being advanced in technology.



Communicating visual ideas to nonvisual audience

Communicating visual ideas to nonvisual audience is all about the use of the audio by this i mean all the sound in the ident they use, most of the idents use audio to set the tone and also communicate the brand of the channel, this is very important as the whole purpose of the ident is to allow the audience to know what channel they are watching and who the channel is aimed towards.

Discovery- Hedgehog

As you can see i have chosen the discovery channel ident because it has a clear audio which tells the audience that the channel is about animals and also we hear unusual sound which tells the audience that this channel is about exploring different things which are new, this reflects back on to the channel name which is Discovery. This channel helps the novisual audience know what the channel is about and also the sounds may appeal to the target audience because the animal sound may interest them as the have an interest in animals.


Creating under pressure of time and budget 

Creating under pressure of time and budget is when the ident has been rushed and we do not see any conventions of the ident being used. These idents are usually made by channels which are not that popular or they have a niche audience, this will mean them often having small budget this is why they may just have a simple ident which shows the logo, the downside is that this channel cannot often connote brand of the channel.

Al Jezeera:(blue/gold) ident

As you can see from above i have chosen al jeszeera ident as they are broadcaster which has not got a huge amount of finance this is why the ident is very simple as you can see in above video it is not that advanced and has not got that much actual recorded content in it as we just see the logo and simple transitions, this tells us that the broadcaster had a low budget or couldn't create any creative ident due to the time scale. This is one reason why the broadcasters couldn't produce creative ident.

Appealing to a target audience 

Appealing to a target audience is when the ident reflects back to the audience and it usually tells the audience that this channel is for them as they will be conventions that appeal to them this will make them watch programs on that specific channel as it appeals to them this is very important because if you are appealing to the wrong audience it can lead to loss of viewers on the programme.

E4 student digs- sex appeal 


As you can see from above the ident i have chosen is from channel E4, we see their ident scenarios are to do with their target audience as you can see from the ident, in the ident we see the E4 robot do things which students would do as we see the E4 robot go to the room and then sit down and drink and then sit in front of the TV, this tells us that the are aiming at the student because we associate laziness and these factors with student as you can see the scenario is a untidy bed room. 

Appreciation of desired tone  


Appreciation of desired tone is when the ident uses technical  elements to show their tone and value of the channel, by this i mean that if they change the editing pace it creates different feelings. Also this helps them get the brand of the channel across to the audience. this will benefit them as it would tell the audience which content will be on the channel.

Film4 - woods (UFO)



As you can see the ident i have is from film4 because i believe this specific ident sets a desired tone for the channel because if you carefully listen to the audio it shows it's very superstitious which means that the channel does not show a specific films or show as there is a variety this is why i believe it does set a tone as it tells the audience that the channel has different content.

Ident logo

Above are two ideas for my logo as i found it very difficult to choose one this is why i have done two, the first logo is very simple and i thought it represents the channel because as you can see it is a TV inside a box, and inside the TV it says CHA which stands for the school name and then the TV stands for the TV. The colour scheme for the first logo is green and blue and then have used a red glow to make it stand out and also outside the box i have used blue outline as i thought it represents the theme colour of the school. My second idea was a splash and then the text in the middle as this is more of a unique idea as i have not seen a ident logo like it and also i think it makes the channel look more fun and entertaining.

2D 

The first 2d idea is that we will have a Chadwell Heath Academy prospect then i will have a ripple affect which shows the logo of my channel, this will be the channel ident logo. The Chadwell Heath Academy prospect will be on my hand then i will open it then i would have the ripple affect in there. The Chadwell Heath Academy prospect will be on a close up and then it will stay in the same position as the paper will just move. The brand of this ident is to show what the children have done previously before they joined the school they may have looked at the prospect to see what kind of school it is, this also relates back to the action because the action appeals to the audience as they may have seen the parents go through the school prospects. Below is the storyboard which explains the ident.




The second idea is there will be a water puddle then someone will step on it which will lead to the channel logo, this is going to be combined with 3d design as the water will splash on to the screen then will have different colours. I will definitely do this idea outside, however it may be very difficult to make a puddle. The whole shot of the person stepping on the puddle will be in a midshot and close up. The purpose if this ident is to appeal to them and i am very sure almost every pupil has step on a puddle this is why i think my idea will appeal to them and also it will be very entertainment led as it would be fun to watch. Below is the storyboard which explains the ident.




3D

The first 3D idea i had in mind was that i will make the logo 3D then i will make it bounce around the screen ungrouped and then at the end it will join, i will need to use stop motion aswell but i think it is possible. I will be recording the scenes part by part to make sure it looks okay. The action of this ident is that there will be the words moving around then we see them join together, this will be fast paced which appeal to my target audience. Below is the storyboard which explains the ident.




The second 3D idea i want to do is make to do a puzzle and then have the logo made up of the puzzle this will look 3D as i will be using stop motion as well, it will be a challenge but i like to take a challenge as i learn new skills which i can develop and get better at it. The puzzle will move around the whole screen then it will lead to the logo, the purpose of this ident will be to appeal to the audience as their will be content which does appeal to them like the puzzle many of the pupils play. Below is the storyboard which explains the ident.




Stop Motion 

The first stop motion idea i have in mind is to have the CHA logo as a separate words at the park which is near the school and all the pupils of that school know about the park, all the words will follow each other and the at the end join together which will create CHA TV the name of the channel, i will do this by having key frames which will mean it's time consuming as it will be one shot per a time but as long as the finish product is good. The location of this ident is the school because then it will appeal to the audience then there will be a time lapse. Below is the storyboard which explains the ident.




The second stop motion idea i have is basically it will be set outside of the school but it will be an animated look a like then we will slowly get the logo of the channel in the center, this will be the best idea as it involves the school and it does aim towards the right audience, also i have seen a lot of idents made with scenes of programmes or film, this is why i'm inspired to this.  The
